Floating Market in Thailand and the Solution about Sexism and Racism
When I was in New York City, I found that there were many campaigns and also the exhibitions in museum established to empower women and people with colors and LGBT identities. I grew up in different world, and I began to learn about the gender and racial identity there. Years later, I continued my doctoral degree with Bangkok University in Thailand. My advisor made my vision clearer than before. I could understand more about gender/racial/age equality. Even New York City consisted of these campaigns, years ago, that does not mean all Americans would accept or prefer the equality. In public place, they express their respect toward one another, but in online space, it is very different. I could see many racist American and racist media fans in online space. When people do not need to protect their face(s) or their true identities, they would express their evil thought easily.
Sometimes, I went through Google movie review, since it is one of the most reliable reviews compared with IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes. Many feminist movies got lower rate than general movie, even these feminist movies have a certain production and enjoyable plot. These users do the same thing with anti-racist films. Some moment, I am depressed, because I learn that there are too many sexist, racist, and ageist people online. I have to remind myself to make myself feel better. I talked to myself, these people can only so active online, because if they express their sexism and racism in real world, then, there is no place for them to stand in the society. That is the encouragement that I use to say.
Floating market is the place that could encourage me the same way. Floating market or riverside markets in Thailand provide me the fact that people with any identity could live together peacefully. The tourists travel from several places and come to have a walk and have a meal here. The hawkers could be either men or women, and either young or old. I love when I see people with different identities do the similar things and communicate to one another nicely and friendly. This is why I really like to travel to floating markets all around Thailand.
It is important to note that I posted this article in this webpage before I put everything together and submitted to the university. In other words, I owned the copyrights of this article or blog post, and later, I reused this copyrighted material in the research report. Similarly, I wrote an article for a conference in Phayao, and later, I used the article for the research report. That also means, I owned the copyrighted material before reusing it again in the research report.
