Language Translator App Kills Students in Thailand
Most of teacher evaluation scores are in a certain level, which is good or very good. The average score is about 4.3 or 4.4 from 5 as the highest possible score. Students show their appreciation in class schedule and handout. They could understand the link between in-class handout and the course objectives.
Most parts of this class were run by using active learning activities. These activities might be suitable with the students in PR and AD major, especially in this generation. They told me that they found that this class was fun and they really liked it.
Although everything seems to be perfect in this semester, the only thing that I feel I want to improve is that I want to assign more reading, especially academic reading. In fact, I have the reason, not to do it. Most of the time that I assign them the in-class reading, I found that they liked to use translation application. They did not try to read anything by themselves. I always encouraged them to translate only difficult words, but they always translate the whole sentence. To assign the English reading, it does not improve their reading skills, but it may improve their application using skill.
Someone I know and respect told me that we all could not stop students from using translating program. Although we describe the benefits of enthusiastic to learn, students would still prefer the ease of use. They want to finish the task as fast as they could rather than want to learn or gain the skills.
