The lessons I had planned at the beginning of the semester are not affected by the COVID-19 crisis. I could run 60 percent of the Animation class by using traditional face-to-face meeting. For other 40 percent or about 5 classes, I recorded my voice and played it with the slide on YouTube to teach theory, and recorded the screen monitor to teach how to produce animation with Adobe Animation or Adobe Flash. Everything could go well. I could count from the number of the visitors who watch my YouTube video. At least, I could be sure that most students worked on the project by themselves. However, I am also curious when some students did not submit the assignment with their own account. These few guys may ask their friends to do the assignment for them.
When I taught them online, I created the YouTube video as the media to teach. They could ask me the questions via Facebook messenger, and they would submit the assignment or animation via Google Drive. Google Drive is a good website and application, because I can control the privacy of each file. If someone submitted the assignment before the least of the class, I could hide her or his file from other friends, so other friends would not be able to copy one’s file, unless one privately sent the file to others. I hope for the best that most students should be honest.
The only thing that I changed the plan, different apart from the plan at the beginning of the semester, is, that I cannot give an actual examination in classroom. I told my students that the final exam was 15 percent of the grade and I have prepared the multiple-choice exam. I let someone did the photo-copy for me. Then, at the same day, the government announces that all universities and educational institutes had to close. I realized that I could not run the traditional exam anymore. Instead of giving online examination, I let my students did a media analysis. They would earn 10 points from the analysis and another 5 points from a part of final project.
