English class even the general English or English for some specific major like Business computer may cause some students’ anxiety at least at the beginning of the semester. Anxiety could decrease students psychological well-being and following with poor academic outcome. Therefore, we, as the lecturers or faculty members, should use some strategies to reduce students’ anxiety and improve their class enjoyment.
The current semester, I ran the active-learning activities in all classes and for every section I taught. I could notice that my students enjoy the class. Therefore, I would like to recommend the lecturers of future class to use active-learning teaching method, too.
Moreover, English for Business Computer class is unlike the general English class that students also need to understand the vocabulary about their major and the way to communication to people working in the same area. This may make them more anxious about the class. This might be because they need to learn a lot of new lessons, new vocabularies, and new ways to communicate.
In my opinion, 3-hour class might be too long for the students to keep relaxing and enjoying. The class time should somewhat be reduced. The school may separate the 3-hour class to be two 1-hour-and-a-half classes, or they could do two-hour class once and another 1-hour class later in the same week. This way may reduce students’ anxiety and make them get use to English language better, since they would see their teachers more often.
