This is the third time that I taught English for Business Computer class. Business Computer is somewhat similar to general computer-related major that students need to be able to create a website, application, and code various programming languages by themselves. I have experienced studying in computer-related major before, but not about how to use technology for the business. For this class, it is like to combine marketing, computer, and English language together.

I began to teach this class for the first time about 3 years ago. At that moment, I taught along with other 2 instructors. We all did not have any material. We had taught English class before, but not English for Business Computer. In that first semester, I tried to made new handout or worksheet related to computer and technology. I did it week by week. I kept doing this in the first semester and added more important topics in the second time I got to be the instructor of this class.

For the current semester, I got all materials I need. I improved some worksheet to meet a better quality. This might be the most-ready semester for me to teach English for Business Computer, I will let you know how I have developed worksheets and class activities suitable for students in this major.

When I got to teach the comparative and superlative, which are important topics in grammar, I let them compare the attribution of IT or online related product and also compare the quality of CEO or net worth of the computer-related company. Another worksheet is about how to describe the syntax of JavaScript or C++ by using English. I think this is important for them to let others of foreigners understand their coding work.

We could not forget that people who are expert at coding, they have to be initially expert at Math. Therefore, I got a Math-related activity. Students need to calculate by their own brain. The number is not that much or too hard, but the special thing about this activity is that all the problems were written in JavaScript. I got the sign or symbol or syntax stuff, the language that people outside IT-related major could not read. In the last class, I also let them draw a causal model. I gave them 5 vocabularies related to their major. They would discuss with their friends in their group and came up with a model and also the description in English. This is how I keep developing in-class activities for English for Business Computer course. We all, my students and I, do appreciate the outcome of this semester.
