Flood Flood Flood Seems it’s flooded everywhere. Absorbing more and more news on floods have plunged me to the darkness of Democracy itself. It wasn’t come as a surprise when I first heard about floods in Thailand. It happened every year in the 25 years of my life. The only difference this one made is that it seems to last for months and hopefully not forever. Why? Oh well, i thought the natural disaster has taken its toll once again. But hang on there, I was searching for similar severe situations in our neighbouring countries why wasn’t it there on the world news anymore, why? Seems it all ended anywhere else…

Searching for answering my curiousity, I’ve come to realise and admit that nature is not the only pivotal force. As we all Thais must admit about our wrong-doing towards utilisation of land, forest and water, the other thing is still being left untouched from the the majority, the government they elected. With the vast majority of voters for the party, winning sharply by over 50% of the total votes. People were cheering loudly for the so-called ‘democracy’. I, on the other hand, only did what I could and accepted the results. The only light I saw into this was the fact that female now has some part to play in national Thai politics though only as a dummy of the males behind the scenes, but something is better than none.

Having said that I only have wished for the national reconcilation through the female figure as a leader. Only a couple of months passed however, the so called democracy has embarked on its hidden power. The yearly natural disaster has again arrived but was this too tricky to handle than years before when the rainfall was amounting only to that once seen in 1995, of course not!

With some wit and leadership in the government and of course the dummy PM we would have this problem sorted, managed and solved soon before it could have caused such a national crisis like it is right now. Well, not only they failed to do so, they themselves might play big part causing the crisis. According to some news report, it’s the fact that this government did not allow the lowering of water in the main dams before the monsoon arrived due to some ugly political reasons behind. Plus the political games played by some more experienced figures to protect their main voting areas from floods regardless of the more serious concerns in other parts of the country. These along with the team lacking experience in the power control itself let alone in flood and water management, Thailand is slowely sinking down the drain. This has obviously proved however of what the elected Gov’t are not capable of and probably never will be. Strikingly enough, amidst such hard time, instead of concentrating on fighting over floods, they have instead secretly passed the controversial Casino Act which goes against the tradition and image of Buddhistic Thailand at all the odds.

The dim light that once shed on has now completely blackened. What remain is not only the trace of flood in and around my house but the bitter sweetness of democracy itself. I could only wish the vast majority has learned it this time, even for little is better than none.

จากการติดตามข่าวสารบ้านเมืองผ่านทางอินเตอร์เน็ตโดยเฉพาะจากสังคมออนไลน์ และจากเพื่อนคนไทยใกล้ตัวหลายๆคน ก็รับรู้ได้กับความ “แรง” ทั้งกระแส และเนื้อหาของละครที่โด่งดังและเพิ่งจบไปอย่างดอกส้มสีทอง มีวลีเด็ดๆที่ถูกนำมาถ่ายทอด พูดซ้ำไปมาอยู่หลายรอบ หลายวลีด้วยกัน แม้จะมีฝ่ายบริหารปกครองระดับสูงออกมาแสดงความคิดเห็นในเชิงห่วงใยถึงผลกระทบต่อสังคมของละครแนวๆนี้ แต่ดูเหมือนสังคมส่วนใหญ่จะไม่ยี่หระกับคำเตือน ทั้งยังต่อต้านและต่อว่าถึงสังคมการเมืองที่สกปรกและ แรง ยิ่งกว่าในละครน้ำเน่าหลังข่าวเสียอีก

ทั้งนี้ก็ตาม จริงอยู่ที่ว่าละครเป็นตัวสะท้อนสังคม สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นในละครอย่างเรื่อง ดอกส้มสีทอง, มงกุฎดอกส้ม หรืออีกหลายต่อหลายเรื่อง ก็ล้วนแล้วแต่เกิดขึ้นจริงในสังคม จะว่าไปมันก็เป็นปฏิกิริยาย้อนกลับซึ่งกัน สังคมแรง สื่อสะท้อนแรง สังคมก็เลียนแบบความแรง สรุปก็คือ แรงแบบไม่มีที่สิ้นสุด แล้วสุดท้ายก็จะเกิดการโยนกลองกันไปมา ว่าตกลงใครผิด ใครเริ่มก่อน…แต่ในที่สุุดก็ไม่มีใครยอมรับว่าล้วนแต่เป็นตัวสร้างผลกระทบด้วยกันทั้งนั้น

ความ แรง ที่เกิดขึ้นไม่ได้เห็นได้แค่ในหนังในละคร ตามเว็บไซต์ที่ให้แสดงความคิดเห็นก็ชัดเจนเช่นกัน ว่าคนไทยเราเสพย์ติด ดราม่า จนมีเว็บไซต์ drama-addict ที่ฮิตติดลมบน จากการรวบรวมความขัดแย้งเชิงความคิดในเว็บบอร์ดดังต่างๆ และหนึ่งในนั้นคือเว็บพันทิพย์ เมื่อสัปดาห์ก่อนนี้เอง แอบเห็นกระทู้กล่าวถึง อีเห็น ตอนแรกก็งงๆว่าไอ้เจ้าสัตว์โลกน่ารักมาเกี่ยวอะไรกับหัวข้อกระทู้แนะนำแห่งห้องความสวยความงาม แต่พอเปิดเข้าไปก็ถึงบางอ้อ ว่าเจ้าของกระทู้กำลังประณามหยามเหยียดการเอาช่วงใดช่วงหนึ่งของลำตัวไปพิงเสาบนรถไฟฟ้าหรือรถไฟใต้ดิน มองๆไปก็เห็นได้หลายมุม แต่มุมที่คนส่วนใหญ่ตอบกันในกระทู้มักจะเป็นด้านเดียวกัน นั่นคือ ด่าแหลก+แกล้งจิกผม ดึงหัวสารพัด เหมือนนางร้ายในละครโผล่่มาไม่มีผิด

จะว่าไปการใช้ของสาธารณะก็ควรจะนึกถึงประโยชน์ส่วนรวมเป็นใหญ่อย่างที่หลายๆคนในกระทู้ให้ความเห็นก็ไม่ผิด แต่ถ้าคิดดูให้ดี การเอาใจเขามาใส่ใจเรา และไม่ดราม่าเรื่อยเปื่อยน่าจะดีกว่าไม่ใช่หรือ อย่างกรณีข้างต้นถ้าเราแค่สะกิด บอกเขาดีๆ ว่าขอจับเสาหน่อยอะไรทำนองนี้ หรือบางคนอาจจะมีเหตุผลต้องยืนพิงจริงๆ เช่นว่าเหนื่อยมาก อายุมากแล้ว การทรงตัวไม่ดี ฯลฯ มันก็น่าจะมีเหตุผลเพียงพอให้เราเข้าใจเขาได้บ้างไม่ใช่หรือ

ดราม่ากันไปก็เท่านั้น ความสงบสุขในสังคมน้อยลงไปทุกที คนห่างไกลศาสนา จิตใจไม่พัฒนา วันๆบ้าแต่วัตถุ…บ่นๆๆๆๆๆ สังคมแห่งความเอ้ืออาทร ความเอ้ือเฟื้อเผื่อแผ่มันจืดจางไปทุกที…

Having stayed in England for more than 5 years, I’ve for the first time just realised how easy  it is to squat here. Oh well, as it stands, squatting is not a crime here and even worse the legal owner needs to take the squatters to court in order to get back their rightful house.

Sadly but true, last week we noticed our neighbours are willingful squatters. Apparently there is an association serving for “squatting made easy” sort of things. If interested please log on and see for yourself @

From what my housemates have observed, our squatting neighbours are at our age, look normal, sometimes wear very smart suit and dresses. They have laptop, TV’s, very loud speakers, lots of books, and etc. They put this note on their window

I have been thinking through but still not convinced with such reckless regulation. Perhaps this is “justice and equality” of the so called ‘developed world’.

One thing noted in the squatting handbook though that they should try to be nice to other neighbours so we would choose them over the landlord when it comes to court. Anyhow, last night I told them to turn down their music and they practically did without complaints.

Oh well, when in Rome do what the Romans do. Maybe I should start squatting from now on 😛

And be careful not to leave your home empty for too long…

Before going to today’s topic, I would like to convey my deepest sympathy for Japan and the Japanese people. With my greatest belief in such great country like Japan I am more than certain that they will soon overcome the hardship. RIP to those who their lives swept away by the wave of terror, tsunami.

On one early morning of the boxing day, 26th December 2004 I was sitting in my dorm room at MWITS and listening to the radio. There was a report about earthquake in Phuket, at that moment I wasn’t thinking that it would become a deadly serious one of which it turned out to be. Since then Tsunami is no more an unfamiliar phrase for any Thai. At school in our Earth Science class, we learnt about Tsunami and I remember presenting on this topic+strategy for best prevention ie the tsunami warning system (with the help designing and ppt slides decoration from SW_Eden at the time). Years on, I kept hearing more and more news about natural disasters from every where in the world. And this time sadly it was from Japan.

I am sure this will not be the last, more and more natural disasters will come and possibly more serious and at an alarming rate too. Or the end of the world is coming? 2006, 2012, 20xx all heard that it could become the last episode of the planet Earth. Though, taking into account the better information system giving rise to the greater no’s of events reported and the higher world’s population (the natural selection is taking its toll), the rate at which natural disasters occur is still threatening.

No one to blame though, apart from us all. These epic events are signs of what might happen in the next few decades. Probably we should just sit back from the hype and really think how to live more peacefully and homogeneously with our mother nature. Sustainability might be an answer here, only that we need to be sincere and take it seriously enough.

On the face of it, it’s quite ironic to see the sad news from Japan being attacked by nature while in africa, or in my hometown, the southernmost of Thailand, people are still fighting amongst themselves over their absolute idiology or their beliefs, or the broken history of time. If we go on like this, the catastrophic future is not too long await…

โรคเสพย์ติดการช้อปปิ้ง

จะว่าไปการช้อปปิ้ง หรือจับจ่ายซื้อสินค้าอันไม่จำเป็น แต่เป็นที่ต้องการ น่าจะเป็นเรื่องธรรมดาสำหรับสาวๆพอสมควร ยิ่งด้วยยุคนี้สมัยนี้ที่ทุนนิยมเข้าครอบงำแทบจะทุกซอกหลืบของสังคม แม้แต่กระทั่งนอนเล่น ท่องโลกอินเตอร์เนตอยู่ที่บ้านก็ยังมิวายสามารถซื้อของผ่านเว็บไซต์เสียเงินไปโดยไม่รู้ตัว

มีการศึกษาพบว่าในสังคมอเมริกันประชาชนกว่า 5%  เป็นโรคเสพย์ติดการช้อปปิ้ง และ 80%  ของจำนวนนี้เป็นผู้หญิง จริงๆแล้วโรคเสพย์ติดการช้อปปิ้งมีตั้งแต่ระดับเร่ิมต้น ที่ก็เรียกกันทั่วไปว่า  shopaholic หรือแบบรุนแรงมากขึ้น ที่เรียกว่า compulsive buying disorder และส่วนใหญ่คนที่เสพย์ติดการช้อปปิ้ง จะมีอาการคล้ายๆกันคือ รู้สึกดีเมื่อได้เสียเงินซื้อของ ไม่ว่าของเหล่านั้นเราจะต้องการหรือไม่ก็ตาม และหนำซ้ำบางคนยังรู้สึกดี แม้ว่าเงินที่จ่ายไป จะก่อให้เกิดหนี้ก้ตาม สาเหตุจากการเกิดอาการเสพย์ติดการช้อปปิ้งนั้นส่วนใหญ่ก็น่าจะมาจากการไม่รู้จักระงับกิเลส หรือความอยากนั่นเอง บวกกับเหตุผลทางกายภาพ นั่นคือ เมื่อภาวะจิตใจรู้สึกซึมเศร้า หดหู่ เครียด ก็จะหาเวลาไปเดินช้อปป้ิงเพื่อสร้างความสุขชั่วครู่เล็กๆน้อยๆ แล้วร่างกายก็จะสร้างฮอร์โมนขึ้นมาให้กระปรี่กระเปร่าได้ประเดี๋ยวประด๋าว แล้วก็กลับวนเป็นวงจรเดิมเช่นนี้เรื่อยๆ

การวิเคราะห์ทางสังคมศาสตร์พบว่าเหตุผลสำคัญอีกประการหนึ่งที่ทำให้คนเราเสพย์ติดการช้อปปิ้งนั้นก็เนื่องมาจากความต้องการสร้าง “ตัวตน” จากเปลือกนอก โดยใช้วัตถุต่างๆเป็นตัวเสริมสร้างความเป็นตัวตน อาทิ การแต่งตัวให้สวยงาม ตามแฟชั่น เพื่อสร้างรูปลักษณ์ตัวเองให้ดูดีขึ้น การใช้กระเป๋าแบรนด์เนมราคาแพง เพื่อสร้างความ โอ้ ว้าว ให้กับคนที่พบเห็น หรือสร้างความมีระดับ  (class) หรือยกระดับตัวเองให้ดูเหนือกว่าคนอื่น

ไม่ว่าจะด้วยเหตุผลกลใด การเสพย์ติดการช้อปปิ้งย่อมต้องส่งผลกระทบกับแต่ละบุคคลไม่มากก็น้อย และถ้าลองคิดดูให้ดีๆ จำนวนเงินที่หมุนเวียนอยู่ในการช้อปปิ้งอย่างบ้าคลั่ง (คาดว่าส่วนใหญ่น่าจะอยู่ในสังคมคนชั้นกลางขึ้นไป) ถ้าได้เปลี่ยนไปเป็นการแบ่งปันไปสู้ผู้ยากไร้บ้าง ช่องว่างทางฐานะในสังคมคงจะแคบลงไม่น้อย เพียงแค่คนเรารู้จักเปลี่ยนความฟุ้งเฟ้อมาเป็นความเพียงพอที่พอดี เปลี่ยนกิเลสความอยากต่างๆนานาให้กับตัวเอง มาเป็นความอยากช่วยเหลือผู้อื่น สังคมทุนนิยมที่โหดร้าย คงกลายร่างเป็นสังคมน้ำพึ่งเรือเสือพึ่งป่าที่น่าจะสงบสุขกว่านี้มากทีเดียว

…เปลี่ยนจากผู้ซื้ออย่างฟุ้งเฟ้อ มาเป็นผู้ให้นำ้ใจที่เหลือเฟือ…

Nostalgia, a yearning for the past usually in its most idealistic form…

When you start to become unaware of your age, the calendar year, and how things around you are gradually changing, and trying so bad digging through stuff fromt the past, I think that’s how you become ageing. And that’s what’s happening to me. I started to look back to those ‘good old days’, when I felt the freshness of the adolescence just past through. Many things have come across my mind…I recalled the morning TV programs i loved to watch before going to school, the rush to school, the morning ceremony in the bright sunlight, the longing for becoming adult, the day-dreaming of those pop-stars, the fight with my sis (not so much yearning for, as it holds through to these days :D), the cat-fight with my priliminary school mates …

It’s good though at least that somehow everytime I look back to the past, I always see the bright side of it. As the term implies: “good old days”. I don’t really hear anyone saying ‘bad old days’ before. So, perhaps people mostly tend to recall only the slices of the goodness from the past.

No matter how much I would like to turn back time, how much I’d like to be in that good old days again, nothing from back then will change. And all I can, and we can is to do just our best for today which will make up the actual ‘good old days’ that you’ll be most satified with. And you will only be thanking to those days you’ve been through rather than imagining to get back to change things which will never come true.

Happy Valentine’s day to everyone 🙂 especially to my mum as it’s her birthday on this Valentine’s day 🙂

Over three days of marathon fighting between the red shirts protesters and the army force. May I make it clear here that I do not wish to see such violence. I know well that everyone loves their lives, same as me. But the situation has come to the point where another negotiation seems impossible. What I reckon is that the red shirts will only seek for negotiation once the situation turns violent and they will deny when the government give such negotiation.

I am not sure exactly of what the red shirts are aiming for from this continual demonstration. If they truly want “democracy” by way of house dissolution and new election, then the government offered them already. But, since they denied such exit for the country. There is no other solution left apart from forcing them to stop such protesting with armed men!!!

It is hence obvious to me that, the goal the red shirts have been fighting for is far beyond house dissolution and definitely not ‘democracy’. I myself don’t believe that democray would come from violence!

I herein would like to show my stand point that I love the King Bhumibol of Thailand with all my heart. And I would give all my attempts to protect the King.

It has been a long time to see celebrity giving their oppinions towards current political situation in Thailand. But today, Aof Pongpat Wachirabanjong has done a brave and honourable job for us all. At the first Nadharaj Award,  his speech after recieving an award was …

“I recieved this award from acting as a father. I therefore would like to mention about ‘father’. Father is a pillar of a house. My home is a big one, very big. There’re many of us living together. When I was born, this home was already very beautiful and warm. But, before it could become like this, the Father’s ancestors had sweated, bleeded, and lost their lives to build such nice home for us. Until today, this Father is still  tired to look after this home and take care for all our welfare and happiness.

And if there’s someone who is angry at another one and would blame it all to this Father, hate the Father and resent the Father or even think of chasing the Father away. I would go out and tell the person that if you hate your Father, if you don’t love your Father anymore please get out of this land because this is the Land of the Father.

I LOVE THE KING. And I believe that everyone loves the King as well. We all are in the same colour(in Thai, colour is pronounced Sri), our heads (in Thai, head is pronounce Sri-Sa ) are for the King of the Land.”

His speech was followed by a song, The Impossible Dream which is the 43rd musical composition by the King Bhimibol of Thailand. (song starts at 3.08)

I wish to see the peaceful Thailand again.
