Thai Food by King Rama II กาพย์เห่ชมเครื่องคาวหวาน by รัชกาลที่ 2

The favorite drawing of an France artist who visited my school. I was about grade 7 at that period. This drawing included the foods in the poem of King Rama II (King Rama 2 , King Buddha Loetla Nabhalai) that is “Verse of Food and Dessert”, composed for singing during rowing the boat.

Thai Foods from King Rama 2, painting by Sw Eden สว อิเฎล

King Rama 2 is considered as a really great teacher of Thai poets. This Verse of Food and Dessert is about how delicious of Thai Food, and a little bit about how to cook. King Rama 2 always compare This great foods with his lover; such as how the food looks like and how the woman dresses, and how happy to eat the food and how happy to be with the lover.

All are so beautiful and creative. He is really really artist! He can put many many kinds of food in every individual verse. I guess this poem should include more than 20 kinds of Thai food.
I will translate some parts which are so artistic. It will be crazy to translate whole things, so you may get rough translation on Google translate or Babel Fish Yahoo.

If you have any problem or confusing about how to write Thai poem correctly, you can ask me. I know a lot about the methods. You may not ask me to write to poem for your class, but you can ask me to fix what you have. (I really concern about copyrights.)

Jane Hirshfeild beautiful poetry

Jane Hirshfeild is a strange poet of those who are praised to be the best. Her poetry is just simply perfect, and that makes a big different from other great poets. Almost poets make their poems to be interesting by the complexity. I wrote in one of my poems that Tadao Ando, a Japanese architect has a simple geometric form, and all are perfect. Another guy I wrote about is Antoni Gaudi who make weird shape and form on his architecture. Both are right and interesting. In my opinion, it is harder to make a simple form or a simple story to be interesting. And Jane Hirshfeild can do what many talented people cannot do.

Jane Hirshfeild was born in New York City . She should have grown up with a complex life. Although she had had that life before, she does not have to put all her experience into the poem as almost regular artists do. She makes her poem easy to understand for everybody in every age and everywhere. This seems like she has high graphic skill on her poem. Graphic is something for many people to understand in the same way. Mostly it is on picture or symbol, and right here, she has it on her poem. She has the best way to communicate. She does not just communicate by her story or her feeling. All she did is for teaching. She created a big lesson which is not too much serious as in the religion book. She entertains people with the rhythm of poem and she tells Buddhism teaching at the same time.

Simple format and good-communication language of Jane Hirshfeild’s poetry make people believe in her words easily. She is both nice and excellent in this way. Her teaching is always help the world, by its idea and the way to think about the life. Her poetry gives new hopes for people. Her poetry is friend for the lonely. All her poems are optimistic stories which are based on truth.

One of her poem which can help people who are confused very well is, “Poem With Two Ending”. This poem talks about the living and the death. And that is true as the name of it, that is both are the ending of each other. This will remind most people who heard of a Greenday song, “Closing Time” about a sentense that is, “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” Jane Hirshfeild begins “Poem With Two Ending” with the truth to make her poem to be much strong for lost-hope people to believe in. If I were those people, she could describe my feeling at that moment really well. She does not just say the exact word of those feelings, but she used scenes to represent them. She wrote, “Say, ‘death’ and the whole room freezes (1), even the couches stop moving (2)”. There is not only the really situation she gave, she also has an easy example which everyone can imagine with. The easy example can make her poem to be really solid and much more powerful. She has it in this poem, that is, “Like a squirrel suddenly aware it is being looked at”. This is totally true. Almost photographer got a great shot of squirrels, because they got stuck when they feel the camera looking at them. She gave more examples in following line until she felt that they are enough, and after that it is her time to teach. The last example seems to be strongest one in my sight. She wrote, “A shopping mall swirls around the corpse of a beetle (11)”. This really shows all meanings of the death. Shopping mall is so big, and a beetle is so small and round. This bug has no direction around four walls. The bug is just like a dust in the universe and no one look at it. People can also step on it. The bug is alone. No one cares about it. At the end, nothing of it leave for, or relate, to all things around. Although her poems is fine and soft, she has a really confident part in this poem that is, “Death is voracious, it swallows all the living (12). Life is voracious, it swallows all the dead (13).” That means both cannot be together, but they can destroy each other. If a person still worry about the death, he will never feel that everything and himself are alive. This is as same as the beginning of the poem, that everything in the room is stopped. On the other hand, if this person is conscious that he is still alive, he will keep his life going and he will never feel the death. The last line of this poem which stand alone says, “The grip of life is as strong as the grip of death”. My understading of this sentense is if people no need to be afraid of the death, and the dead no need to afraid to be in the world, because of both are really strong, and by this strength, they cannot change each other to be in another way. In this poem, Jane Hirshfeild has both great line up with the useful example, nice teaching and great conclusion. This means not only her poem which is calm, because she is also calm when she wrote it, too.

People who were born Buddhist have never been as the excellent people who turn themselves to be Buddhist by their own majority. Buddhism has much more freedom than all other religions. Buddhists do not need to believe in one religion, if other religion teachs people to be nice. Jane Hirshfeild’s poetry does not compress the reader to be Buddhist, but it can persuade by its meaning without any words to persuade as in regular Christian or Satanic songs. In another word is she directs people to look at the world positively, although they do not have to, they will think follow her words. Jane Hirshfeild has a pure Buddhist poem that is, “A Hand”. Surrealistic artists look at the world in different ways from other people, and Jane Hirshfeild and other real Buddists look at everything as nothing.

When Thai students open Buddhist books, they are bored to read about something as everything is just like nothing. Jane Hirshfeild has a good example for them. She picked the nearest example which all readers, except a deformed man, can just look at their own hands and go along with her poem. She describes the hand, that it is not everything that regular people can see or read from. It is not the way surrealistic artists do, too. She said the hand is not what it looks like and not its functions. At the end, the poem says, “Unanswerable, humming like bees, it rises, swarms, departs (18).” To rise, to swarm and to depart all are about the reality of human life. The hand is an important part of human. They are about the same idea in her poem. Everything was born, and it has to has its own responsibility, and then it goes. This meaning does not make people to be depressed or hopeless, but this is thoughtful and cheerful. If people consider about this poem, they will be able to begin their new day so well, because they know that one day they will depart, so they do not need to stick with any shape or form or how rich, how poor they are. If the thing is nothing, to have and to not have are the same. Then, people can give or do charity without thrift. There is only goodness and badness which can be left in the world. In fact, goodness and badness are equally as death and life. We will never know which one is which one if there is no another one. If there is not darkness, we will not know what the brightness is.

The Buddists always give the lotuses to the monks or to the temple. They do as a tradition. In fact, the flower is symbol for monk, and people can give any kinds of flowers to the monk. Monks are from various kinds of people with various of status. There is no classes or levels after their ordination. Every monk respects each other. By this Buddhist symbol, I really admire how Jane Hirshfeild compare people as the gems in “Poem Holding Its heart in One Fist”. That is all difference of people are just like all difference meaning of each gem in the world. This difference of people also reminds me about another poem of her, “the Weighing” which describe about the different life in different season of a lion. That is no one can be strong at all time, because everything has to be balance. The last paragraph of “the Weighing” seems like she compares that the lion also has to give the strength to the nature in the drought time. And this also related to “A Hand” which I mentioned that people cannot stay in the same way until the end of the world.

Jane Hirshfeild has very various examples to teach different lessons, and all are also nice things and all things are also related to each other. This poet really has strong idea in her mind, and she is so excellent to spread that idea out to many different ways. How plain and how true her words are, they have never disturb how interesting of her poetry. Her poetry is all fact and truly friendly, and I believe that it can teach people not only every age, but also in every era.

Meaning of “Halley’s Comet” by Stanley Kunitz

Written as Letter by Sw Eden
This is final draft

Dear, Manson

I am sorry, that I did not write to you for long time. During this week, my professor needed me to write about a poem to you. That is “Halley’s Comet” by Stanley Kunitz. I guess, you know him, too. If you still remember my poem, “I Was There Where You Are,” I will let you know that Stanley Kunitz played with verb tense as same as my poem. At first, I thought that it was easy and direct as my poem, but when I re-read it many times, the meaning of his poem was changed. It is not about just verb tense or only in one day. This poem is about the moving of time, the influence from childhood, and also the inability of human to surrounding environment.

The whole poem was shaped by the movement of the time from the beginning until the end of his life. I heard many people say, that they love this poem because of a child’s innocence and his willingness to believe in incredible story. I cannot imagine, if Stanley Kunitz was really a child at the time he wrote this. He was 90 years old, and surely he was not innocent at his age. He used the one single day to explain his whole life. At the beginning of the poem, the time that he sat in the classroom represents his childhood. After that, he moved from the school to his home, from the dinning room to bedroom and from bedroom to the roof. Every movement describes the passing of time that he was growing up. And in every place that he stopped, he had different responsibility. For example, when his mother and his sister were alive, he had responsibility to be with them, and obey them; and when they died, he had responsibility to take care himself. If you really look into it, you will see that he climbed the stair alone. That means he developed his status in his career by himself. Every step he climbed, he got older and tried, but he also felt higher and better. This is really good experience for comparison. You should try to climb the stair at home. After climbing, he sat on the roof and he described his dress and the weather in that night. This part of poem in which he used present tense is where he was when he wrote it. At 90 years old, it is his time to rest already. He rested on the top of the roof, and watched the sky. He tried to show that he did not look at the town, because he knew all of it, when he had passed it. Although he was at that age, he still looked at higher path. And that is perseverance of his life from the beginning till the end of his poem.

From what I said, this poem is not only about one day of his childhood, but this poem still refers to the influence from adults to a child. At the beginning of the day that he was in the school and walked outside to see the world are his studying time. Generally, people study when they are 5 to 25. Stanley Kunitz covered all parts of those ages within the scenes of school and on the way to home. And regularly, when people get older, their thoughts are also harder to change. Stanley Kunitz shows that his family cannot understand him, and they cannot change his thoughts, too. A child is just like a blank piece of paper, and the first one who paints on it is the one who will form the whole life of that child. Stanley Kunitz’s first thought about the end of the world, which he learned from school, also was supported by the man on the street, who shouted, “Repent, ye sinner!” That made he felt to the world that way till the end of his life.

Stanley Kunits also showed the inability of human to among all ages. During his childhood, he believed whatever other people said. When he grew up, he was with his family, and he was nice. He did what they like, although they did not think that same thing as him. When he climbed up the stair, he climbed alone, such he stepped up to get higher position alone. At one day of the life, people have to help themselves without any help from friend and family. This would describe his ability to achieve by himself. His mother and his sister had passes away, and this might mean on one could walk with him all along his road of life. After he got on top of the roof, he looked at the sky. I would remind you that, the time was late night. It was nearly the end of the day, so it was nearly the end of his life. The roof was on the top part of his house, and he could not just go any higher. This was his inability. He could look higher, but could not go. The only thing he could do at this point is to wait as he said, “Waiting for the world to end.”

This is a really fantastic poem, because we can look at it as an innocence poem or a symbolic poem which is really hard to compose. It is really perfect from the beginning till the end. I love that Stanley Kunitz held all moments of his life in one short poem. Right now, I am thinking about if I were him, where I was in this poem. I guess I would be still walking on the street. The reason that I was not in the school of the poem, is I am college student, and I have more freedom to think than the little child. And the reason that I did not in the dinning room yet, is I am still learning around. How about you? Which part of the poem where you are? Anyway, miss you.

Halley’s Comet by Stanley Kunitz

Miss Murphy in first grade
wrote its name in chalk
across the board and told us
it was roaring down the stormtracks
of the Milky Way at frightful speed
and if it wandered off its course
and smashed into the earth
there’d be no school tomorrow.
A red-bearded preacher from the hills
with a wild look in his eyes
stood in the public square
at the playground’s edge
proclaiming he was sent by God
to save every one of us,
even the little children.
“Repent, ye sinners!” he shouted,
waving his hand-lettered sign.
At supper I felt sad to think
that it was probably
the last meal I’d share
with my mother and my sisters;
but I felt excited too
and scarcely touched my plate.
So mother scolded me
and sent me early to my room.
The whole family’s asleep
except for me. They never heard me steal
into the stairwell hall and climb
the ladder to the fresh night air.
Look for me, Father, on the roof
of the red brick building
at the foot of Green Street—
that’s where we live, you know, on the top floor.
I’m the boy in the white flannel gown
sprawled on this coarse gravel bed
searching the starry sky,
waiting for the world to end.

Halley’s Comet of Stanley Kunitz Analysis by Sw Eden

It is better to read a final paper
https://sw-eden.net/2009/03/23/halleys-comet-stanley-kunitz-meaning/

During this busy week, I found a really good poetry. It is Halley’s Comet of Stanley Kunitz. It helped me a little bit from the stress of that design class. Stanley Kunitz really makes me want to go back to my childhood. He began this poem as he was a kid who got taught at school, and he totally believed. He touched and really felt about the words that professor and teacher did not care that much. The little kid is just like a white sheet of paper. He does not know the world so well as us. The first person who painted on that paper will be the winner of whole game. He felt those words and he could see them along his life in any place. He got covered by those thoughts and he sat with his family. His family did not feel that way. They are old and dull (dull, because of the age) enough to not care about religion. He was with them, and they could control him. Surely, he was a kid. And a really strange part of poem is that he can escape from the family or people who could control him. He climbs up to the roof, and he stays alone. He is free to think. He is free to do anything he wants. But! he still believes that he is not free from the Lord. The Lord will control this world, and every life does depend on Him. He has never seen the end of the world, and he is waiting to see. How many years ago, from that day till now? The thought is really hard to be change.

I cannot feel his way. I cannot be peaceful to wait someone to kill me. However, I also need everyone to feel his way. If we believe that we will be killed by the Lord one day in our life, we will understand what the life is and understand how small we are. Many people want to change to world. They are so young. When they grow up and have family. They do not satisfy perfectly 100% to their families. They need to change something. They are free to think, but are not free to act. At the end of their life, they cannot change just to stay a little longer. People were not born to change the world, but they got change by the world. The world put the thought into them, and they became the world’s.

Is this ugly? As I told you, I need to see people think as Stanley Kunitz. People will know how to act. They will know their responsibility. At least, they will be nice. I love to see the policy without corruptions, The society without envy and a lot of things. But who care to make the world better? This is as same as Stanley Kunitz’s parent and sister. They just make their life better first.

At our age, we are not innocent to believe such these words of teacher easily anymore. The students who agree with that teacher had believed in the last day, before the class. Anyway, you should believe in the last day, too (laugh). Stanley Kunitz was still alive when he wrote this poem. He is God’s. If there was not people as him anymore, that would be the last day. The revelation will happen when the world is full with Anti-Christ or Anti-God or Satanism.

To read the poem, just google it.

The Best in my Arms
http://sw-eden.deviantart.com/art/The-Best-in-my-Arms-112177248

Fall in love with a girl
Wanna be just like her

How beauty on your hair
How pretty on your dress
Scare on your face
I need date you all time

Oh my dear, don’t fear please
Indeed, no bad damn
All I’ve done, are not harm
This is how I feel you

Whatever you did
Seems like kid, and I do
I will follow you
Cause my love’s never ended

I got one of your friends
Did your drain as his den
I had no comment
Pay him yens, let him to do mine

I like when you’re thin
You were queen of feminine
And I was thin masculine
Don’t ask why we are spouses

Then you do fitness
You are best in that house
I follow with no doubt
I announce I love you

Laid down your guitar
Oh kinda, I did too
No one even knew
I gotta do my love damn

I will hold you chest
The greatest in my arms
No panic, just be calm
There’s no time, when we’re one

The best in my arms

Meet you at Seaford
Your right hand is in my left hand
I kiss you, and I know you want it
I will never let you know the dark side of me
I will make you smile everyday
You will never feel empty
You went beyond the ocean
I will see your face every morning
I will sing your songs for you
The same, I will sing my songs for you
I will feel you as you need
I will touch your hair
Inhale as spring flower
I will tell you by the words I trust
I am not you
I am not like you
But I am someone who loves you
I love everything I have known about you
I will say
You are the best guitarist in the world
Until my last breath

Return Start

Christmas is the real starting of most things, actually the sun, the most important part of solar system. This day is about the highest pitch of the winter. The night time will be shorter and shorter after this day. Although Jesus was not born in this day, it is really good meaning to put his birthday on here.

We know this day is for start, SO we start.
Even though we are bitch and bastard
Forget all fault we had done.
Let them be just lesson.
Forgive yourself and your friends.
If you do not do this, the regret will never end.
Give yourself a chance
Start your new performance
Longevity of the world
Short-life of people
How much could we give to this big home
before we go…

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I was there, where You are

@ I was there, where you are
I try to be there, where you are
You did not try to be there, where I was
We are in the same place with different thoughts
@ I thought like you think
Our relationship is nothing
Intimacy is not the time
I could not be calm
@ You keep on fighting,
While what I do is just sing
You were totally asleep,
While I stood to beep
@ Now, you against the rebel
Now, I am an artist well
Last 10 years, I shout to call
This year, you just hear mine all

Author’s Comments
This poem I wrote for current Thai people (around 2007-2008).
Last 10 years, I against the guy who became the current rebel of Thailand.
I tried to tell everybody, but no one believed me.
Everybody said, he was nice.
For now, I am bored to care about this guy, while everyone in my country just knew that he was bad.
I want to be like in my past.
I want to feel like them, or like me in the past.

Letter #4 จาก Sw Eden

กลอน 6 และร้อยแก้ว โดย Sw Eden
